The paired houses that situated in the urban area are designed to accommodate 2 families’ daily life. Each house has a built-up area of around 3,300 square feet with a shared garden.

A continuous exposed brick wall defines the territory from its busy context and creates sense of privacy. Both houses are composed of a brick box and white mass. The brick box of each house functions as meditation room and artist studio respectively, contrasting the daily activities performed in the rest of the house.

Internal spaces are articulated around a sky lit double volume “courtyard”. A series of openings in the brick box and the white mass that open to the “courtyard” enhance the connectivity within the house. Timber decking that extends from the “courtyard” to the garden enriches the communal experience for both houses. To increase the comfort of the interior space, double roof system is introduced.
